Long Island, New York, just outside of New York City, is a locale of interesting history and unique culture. The area was, for many hundreds of years, the location for most commercial cucumber farming, including the production of cucumbers for the Heinz Company.

As more settlers came to the area, the community of Plainview was created. It was named after the fact that the town had an unspoiled view of an area called the Hampstead Plains. For several centuries, the area of Plainview remained a small farming town. While, since then the continuing growth of New York City has left its mark on the town, Plainview still remains like a step into the past. The town has found ways to remain historic while keeping up with modern technology as well.
